CT - Pigtail
CT – Pigtail is an interventional radiology procedure used to drain accumulated fluid, pus, or infected collections from the body using a thin, flexible catheter called a pigtail catheter. The procedure is performed under CT imaging guidance to ensure precise placement.
A small incision is made, and the catheter is inserted into the fluid collection under CT guidance. Once positioned correctly, the catheter allows continuous drainage over a period of time, helping to relieve pressure, reduce infection, and promote healing.
This procedure is commonly used for managing abscesses, pleural effusions, abdominal or pelvic collections, and post-surgical fluid accumulations. It is typically performed under local anesthesia and is less invasive than surgical drainage.
CT Pigtail Drainage is effective in both diagnosis and treatment, as the drained fluid may also be sent for laboratory analysis.
