CT - Temporal Bone
CT – Temporal Bone is a specialized imaging procedure that uses computed tomography (CT) to obtain detailed, high-resolution images of the temporal bones, which house the structures of the ear.
This scan provides excellent visualization of the external ear canal, middle ear, inner ear (cochlea and semicircular canals), mastoid air cells, and surrounding bony structures. It is particularly useful for evaluating conditions affecting hearing and balance.
CT Temporal Bone is commonly used to detect infections such as mastoiditis, congenital abnormalities, fractures, tumors, cholesteatoma, and causes of hearing loss or dizziness. It is also essential for pre-operative planning in ear surgeries, including cochlear implantation.
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and usually performed without contrast, although contrast may be used in specific cases for better evaluation of soft tissue lesions.
The purpose of CT Temporal Bone Scan is to evaluate ear structures and surrounding bones.
It helps to:
